I did a little practicing yesterday...wanted to try out a few techniques with light painting and thought Id share one image from that set with you.

It just sparked a few more ideas that I will try tomorrow.
Its just all in fun.

Danielle on the Traffic Bridge.
I remember taking this shot.  I wanted a relaxed look, and room for the viewers eye to travel around. Kind of like a standard portrait shot, but with the background in focus, and interesting.    I processed this one so that the details in her coat were as detailed as everything else.  By doing that I feel the details of the jacket dont overpower her face. So she is still the subject but keeping the background strong.  Lots of color and detail.

Us near Drumheller AB

So we took a little trip to Calgary last week based around a Lighting seminar I was attending. On the way we had discussed the fact that we don't have that many pictures of us.  We used to take more when we were overseas, but its kind of dropped off since we got back.

Ive tried other kinds more formal ones, quirky ones, ones that were technically perfect, but they all seemed to lack any real meaning.  Looking back these are the ones I like best.  Its just us and the background, handheld, with a nice wide angle lens.

Sometimes its the simple shots that speak volumes.

Btw, the lighting seminar was pretty good, but as I expected I didn't really learn anything new. I'm not saying that I know everything, just saying that I didn't have any earth shattering enlightenments.

Details enthrall me.  I can easily spend too much time looking at nicks, bumps and scratches, not to mention details of design where people have purposely hand carved a design fr a utilitarian purpose.

Down on the river waiting for the sun to set and waiting for a train to show p, I got this reflection of the power station.  I often seen this as an eyesore, but in great light even an eyesore can look good.

One red berry set against the sun.  I was looking for a similar idea with one fall colored leaf, but it eluded me.  So when I say this ruby gem, I stumbled into the bush set up my tripod, composed and got a nice simple berry at the peak of the bush/tree.

One of the images from a recent session.  I love the look on everyones face.

Friends forever.

I suppose I`m on a bit of a red kick today.  Not sure why...maybe because the sky is bright bright blue, and the grass and trees are bight green today, I am over compensating ...

This image has been in my head for an awfully long time.  I saw this apartment door for years everyday when I went to work.  Not far from the neighborhood I lived in.  It took me a few years to take the time and get the picture.  Then another 2 years for me to finish making it.

I really like the contrasts of red and green, the lines and old rustic metal.  All the old stickers from past advertisements or notes to friends...seems like a lot of communication has happened here over the years.  A lot of stories were told.  Make me ponder.

A morning shot from the back corner of a park.  Fall tones fill this piece and the sun warms my face cutting through the cold.

Fall in Saskatoon.

Spending some time on the banks of the river I was looking for the other elements that scream Saskatchewan.

I like the dark moody feeling here broken by a couple wisps of prairie grass.

A shot from one of my first baby photo-shoots.  We were keeping him warm n quiet, while just relaxing.  I thought it may make a cool little cutsie shot.  Most people do the hands to show scale etc...I wanted to be a bit different.

Young Sask

Young Sask doesn't seem so 'young' these days...everything  is getting older

'Young' combine

Driving out by Young Sask, a break in the clouds let the sun shine down almost spotlighting this combine of yesteryear.

For those who are wondering this is the image that was stolen from the gallery in Saskatoon City Hospital.

Its actually the same house as the image above, same day maybe an hour earlier.
